ExxonMobil Lubricants Pvt. Ltd. participated at the 15th National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) – India Chapter Annual Conference and demonstrated an indepth understanding of the coding of industry specifications such as DIN and ISO. The conference, organized by the NLGI - India chapter from "Feb. 7-9, 2013, in Kovalam, is a premier platform for grease-related industry stakeholders in India.

"Understanding the coding used by industry specifications such as DIN and ISO can help users select the proper grease for their equipment, and OEMs to specify the grease requirements for their equipment, in a transparent, cost -effective manner, said Paul Grives, global industrial strategy advisor for ExxonMobil Fuels Lubricants and Specialties Marketing Company. As equipment is commonly installed and operated thousands of kilometres from where it is manufactured, it is important that the grease requirements are clearly noted. Understanding and using industry specifications such as DIN and ISO can provide clear lubrication selection guidance across the entire supply chain."

The use of industry performance specification can allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to cost effectively define performance standards without the need to specify the use of particular product brands. They enable operators to choose their lubricant supplier based on OEM performance requirements rather than lubricant denotation. Lubricant suppliers continue to have the opportunity to differentiate their products to exceed minimum performance standards.

According to ExxonMobil, smart usage of greases starts at its advanced formulation process and extends to recommending correct application expertise, up to product performance that delivers even under some of the most extreme operating conditions.

Backed by more than 100 years of industry expertise, Mobil-branded greases are expertly formulated to meet a wide variety of operating conditions in both industrial and mobile equipment, including extreme applications such as high and low temperatures, water contamination, heavy or shock loads, or variable speeds. Mobil greases are available in a range of viscosity grades to offer customers added choice and flexibility.

Mobil Industrial Lubricants' offered portfolio of greases in India includes MobilithSHC™, Mobil SHC Polyrex™, Mobil Centaur XHP™, Mobilgrease XHP™ 461/462, , Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 and Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 Special.

Through consistent quality and performance, ExxonMobil grease products ensure productivity and profitability for India's industries.

Tata Ficosa Automotive Systems recently selected Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 for the lubrication of conveyor bearings that witnessed high levels of water contamination. The water had led to bearing failures and high frequency of regreasing. However, the use of Mobilgrease XHP™ 222, a lithium complex grease with excellent adhesion and water resistance characteristics helped reduce the consumption of grease, reduce the number of bearing failures from four to zero and also reduce the bearing temperature by 6 degrees C.

Another company that benefited from the use of Mobil grease is JSW Steel Ltd. It had replaced mineral oils with Mobiltemp SHC™ 460 Special in its COREX unit at its Bellary plant. It also introduced the Planned Engineering Service that included onsite inspection and a lubrication clinic to train the field personnel on lubrication awareness and provided guidance in system flushing and changing procedures. The use of Mobiltemp SHC 460 Special resulted in overcoming bearing failures as well as operational defects of DRI Screws. It helped with improved productivity with an increased steel production of 2 percent with 13,680 tons of steel per year.

Swastik Pipes Ltd. selected the Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 for cold rolling machine (CRM) roller bearings that were facing a problem of grease washout by coolant, increased bearing temperature and high regreasing frequency. The plant observed an average of one bearing failure in two months per mill. The use of Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 over a conventional NLGI II lithium-thickener grease helped in improving productivity and in decreasing bearing failure by 50 percent and grease consumption by 33 percent.
